About the exhibition

In partnership with the North Vancouver District Public Library, Since Time Immemorial is an exhibition sharing Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Stories, Art, Animals, and Placenames as seen on the North Shore Culture Compass. This exhibition brings points from the map to life, with artwork, audio, and storytelling. When at the Lynn Valley Public Library, we invite you to listen, reflect and engage with the deep connections between land and language that have shaped this place Since Time Immemorial. Tsitsayxemaat Rebecca Duncan has devoted her life to preserve the Squamish language, Salish weaving, and…

Artist
Xàlek’/Sek’yú Siyám Chief Ian Campbell is from the Squamish Nation and was born and raised on the North Shore. Ian has been an artist his whole life, drawing on the power and beauty of the natural landscape of the West Coast. He incorporates traditional Coast Salish art forms along with realism to portray the rich mythology and profound connections between the natural world and the spirit realms. Ian has in-depth knowledge of his traditional territory, its history, and its stories. This knowledge informs every piece he creates. Art in the Community is a program facilitated by North Van Arts, with a mandate to celebrate local emerging and professional artists through exhibitions in community spaces. We aim to support North Shore artists and increase public awareness of and access to the visual arts. In partnership with North Vancouver District Public Library, and the District of North Vancouver, this program has exhibition spaces at the Lynn Valley Library and the District Hall of North Vancouver.
